Total complement activity test CH50 assesses the entire classical pathway in the complement system to help determine whether deficiencies or abnormalities in it may be causing, or contributing to, a patient's disease or condition. It can be test along with other complement components for terminal pathway, classic pathway, alternative pathway deficiencies.
CH50 may be used to find the cause of recurrent microbial infections, angioedema, or inflammatio, as well as diagnose and monitor acute or chronic autoimmune diseases such as systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and rheumatoid arthritis, and monitor immune complex-related diseases and conditions such as glomerulonephritis, serum sickness, and vasculitis.
