The free beta-subunit of human chorionic gonadotropin beta is part of a glycoprotein hormone expressed in several nontrophoblastic tumours. According to a study published by Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Helsinki University Central Hospital, Finland (1992), provided that they are measured by sufficiently sensitive and specific assays, free beta-subunit hCG appears to be useful markers for pancreatic and biliary cancer. It is also used to diagnose early pregnancy disorders including Down Syndrome.

Advisories
Oct 2, 2018 Advisory: fßhCG Extended Range product (10225-300 and 10275-300) has been replaced by Free-ß-hCG (2025-300 and 2075-300) which has better correlation to market leading systems and a shorter assay procedure. Read Advisory.
Feb 23, 2015 Advisory: Free-ß-hCG (2025-300 and 2075-300) has been replaced by fßhCG Extended Range product (10225-300 and 10275-300), which now extends from 0-200 ng/ml. Previous version measured 0-50 IU/ml, which is equivalent to ng/ml but not the preferred unit in the medical community. Expressing in ng/ml with a wider range, simplifies matters and delivers a more relevant kit. Product numbers and name has been replaced.
